triforce sightings

Yesterday I took a much-needed break from work and spent the day wandering around Kamakura with a friend. You'd never guess what I stumbled upon while exploring the 750-year old Kencho-ji Temple:

That's right, folks. I found... the Triforce. :)

This was in the first temple we visited, and as silly as it may sound, the moment I saw that symbol, I just knew it was gonna be a good day (and I was right). Kamakura is a beautiful place, and I honestly haven't had an experience as fulfilling as this one in ages (and no, it's not just because I saw the Triforce, silly).

I took a lot of really nice pics of Kamakura and a couple of videos, so hopefully I'll get around to posting some of them at some point. For now, have a few more looks at the golden triangles in action:

Fortunately, there were no Octoroks on the premises...

Now that, is truly cool. Something about that is very moving.

Posted by: Kaijima at August 21, 2003 05:16 PM

Wow! Is it really supposed to be the Triforce, or is it just an amazing coincidence?

Posted by: Justin at August 21, 2003 10:58 PM

Ha!

I noticed this as well when I went to Kamakura with my parents!! Pretty funny...

I saw Triforce symbols went I went to Matsue Castle, so Link apparently made it as far as Shimane Prefecture back in the day. :-P The Japanese people I pointed this out to didn't seem to care, though... I think Miyamoto probably chose the symbol for the Zelda games specifically because it's reasonably well-known in Japan. Maybe you could ask him about it? ;-)

By the way, Matsue is also one of the only castles in Japan that's actually intact in its original incarnation (i.e. it wasn't burned down, and you won't find any elevators inside, a la Osaka Castle!). You can also visit Lafcadio Hearn's old house, which is nearby. Interesting places.

Goh/Neko: Merci beaucoup! ^^

(Did I spell that correctly?)

Andrew: did you get any pictures? I'll have to visit Matsue Castle someday...

Posted by: john tv at August 26, 2003 01:43 PM

I took many pictures, but Ganon surely feared the great power that lurked inside my hard drive -- it completely crashed, and all was lost... But I still have the "regular" pictures stored away somewhere.

You know Miyamoto and his teamates were inspired by this temple back in the 80's for creating the first episode of the saga...

OMG! My tattoo! :D

That symbol is lovelly... and in Zelda, each triangle represents a Goddess... Din, Farore and Nayru

Hey cool pics! I'm suprised some of you dont know that the Triforce symbol goes back Midieval Japan! Heh, i had no idea about that for ages. Anyway the triforce was originally used by the Hojo Family or something of that sort. Anyway here are some pretty cool versions of the triforce. http://www.zeldauniverse.net/zeldainfo/articles/ofsad-originsofthetriforce/triforce.gif If you wanna get the full scoop about the triforce go here: http://www.zeldauniverse.net/main.php?page=article34

I hope that helped! :)
